Soybean Fails to be Prostate Cancer Drugs

Soybean many claimed to treat prostate cancer experienced by men. However, recent findings indicate soybean failed to be prostate cancer drug. Patients with cancer pain were not reduced by eating soy.

Research conducted by experts from the University Health Network in Toronto as reported by the Health, also failed to prove the benefits of soy. Even when mixed with selenium and vitamin E supplements, the risk of prostate cancer is not reduced.

In that study, the experts involved 303 adult men who have a high risk for prostate cancer. That is, the participants do not have cancer but the test results indicate the existence of cells pre-cancer in the prostate gland.

At random, some participants received a supplement consisting of a combination of 40 grams of soy, 800 IU of vitamin E and 0.2 mg of selenium should be taken regularly every day. Other participants who received only a placebo to compare their effects.

After 3 years of routine use, cancer risk was observed in the group receiving soy supplements did not differ with the control group who only received placebo. In each group, 26 out of 100 participants or 26 percent eventually get prostate cancer.

These results are not much different from the findings in 2008, when empirically only using selenium and vitamin E without additional soybean. When the experts believe, the two supplements might be more useful if there is the addition of soymilk.

Still one of the researchers from the University Health Network, Dr. Neil Fleshner said that the results of this study do not mean that soy is not helpful at all. However, each benefit should be supported by scientific evidence for not claimed excessive.
